Finding out your child is dyslexic is both scary and a relief. In hindsight, we realize that finding the best tutor was the key to our success story.
We are exremely grateful to have found our tutor, Mary Russell, to guide us from those first panicky days of "what do we do now?!" through three dynamic years. When our 8 year-old Sofia first began working with Mary, she was absolutely lost at school and in danger, we believe, of losing faith in her ability to be successful. More importantly, we sensed and feared her love of learning was in jeopardy,
Mary's very nurturing, positive and encouraging method invited Sofia on a journey that began with a quick physiological lesson about the dyslexic brain, traveled along a path of mutual respect and hard work to culminate in a celebration of the "at" and "above" grade level reading and writing that has catapulted our enthusiastic learner into middle school without need for accommodations, and with tremendous confidence. On several occasions, Mary supported Sofia beyond their lesson times, the most special of which was Mary's surprise appearance at our schools science fair night to congratulate Sofia's courage in choosing "the dyslexic brain" as her subject.
Mary was always Sofia's biggest cheerleader, which created an almost instantaneous ond and a strong foundation for the tremendous work thatt stood between where Sofia was in and where she wanted to be. Mary gave out daughter the tools and skills she needed to catch up and thrive among her classmates. With Mary's absolutely professional and sound tutelage, we watched our daughter's abilities and confidence blossom and bloom and we cannot recommend her with greater enthusiasm.
